On February 28, an American observational study published in the American Heart Association Journal has suggested that sun exposure can help reduce systolic blood pressure for chronic dialysis patients.
Researchers found that temperature and UV exposure are linearly negatively correlated. The study enrolled more than 342,000 chronic dialysis patients from 2,178 dialysis centres in the United States, followed up for more than three years.
The researchers pointed out that previous studies have proved that people who spend more time under the sun will have lower blood pressure and lower risk of cardiovascular disease incidence. This study's results are consistent, suggesting that vitamin D's benefits independent of sunlight should be considered when weighing the risk-benefit ratio.
Researchers believe that sun exposure may lower blood pressure and that insufficient natural UV exposure and active avoidance of sunlight may be new risk factors for high blood pressure.
